The term "shepherd" has its roots in the Latin word "Pastor".
The Good Shepherd, therefore, is an illustration that encompasses the idea that God takes care
of his people; and His disciplining to correct the wandering sheep.
The tendency for humanity to put themselves into danger's way and their inability to guide and
take care of themselves apart from the direct power and leading influence of God, reinforced with
the metaphorical use of the 'sheep in need of a shepherd'.
Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam, prided himself in being part of a rich tradition of prophets who
found their means of livelihoods as shepherds.
Among them, the patriarchs Abraham and Jacob, the Twelve Tribes, the Prophet Moses and
King David and the Old Testament's Amos.

'Govinda' is a name in the Hindi Language given to the God Krishna, literally meaning 'Cow-
Herd'.
The name is derived from the word 'Gobinda' in Sikhism, that refers to God as the
'Preserver/Protector of the World'. However, 'Gov' means 'cow', hence Krishna's worldly aspect
was the 'Preserver/Protecter of Cows'.
So the interconnection of the names and meanings get even deeper when Christ, being derived
from the Greek 'Christos' which in turn is derived from the even older 'Krishna', draws the
analogy of 'Govinda' and the name 'Shepherd'.
Krishna being the protector of cows, while Jesus was the 'Shepherd of the World' or 'Shepherd
of Souls'.

"I am the Good Shepherd. As the Father knows Me and I know the Father, in the same way I
know my sheep and they know Me; And I am willing to lay my life for my sheep. There are other
sheep which belong to me that are not in this sheep pen. I must bring them too; they will listen
to my voice, and they will become One flock, with One Shepherd."
- Jesus Christ: John 10.14-16

"I am the Father of this Universe... (9.17)
Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful
reactions.
Do not fear.
For the One who explains this Supreme secret to the devotees, pure devotional service is
guaranteed, and at the end, they will come back to Me.
There is no servant in this world more dear to Me than he, nor will there ever be one more dear.
And I declare, that he who studies this sacred conversation of ours worships Me by his
intelligence. And one who listens with faith and without envy becomes free from sinful reactions
and attains to the auspicious planets where the pious dwell."
- Sri Krishna in Bhagavad Gita Chapter 18

"Do not be worried and upset, believe in God the Father, and believe also in Me. There are many
rooms (planets) in My Father's house, and I am going to prepare a place for you. I would not tell
you this if it were not so. And after I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take
you to myself, so that you will be where I am. You know the way that leads to the place to where
I am going."
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; so how can we know the way
to get there?"
Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by Me.
Now that you have known Me, you will know my Father also, and from now on you do know Him,
and you have seen Him."
Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father; that is all we need."
Jesus answered, "For a long time I have been with you all; yet you do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. Why, then, do you say 'show us the Father'?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words that I have
spoken to you all do not come from me. The Father who remains in Me, does his own work.
Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. If not, believe because of
the things I do.
I am telling you the truth; whoever believes in me will do what I do - Yes, he will do even greater
things, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask for in my name, so that
the Father's Glory will be shown through the Son. If you ask me for anything in my name
(Christ/Krishna) I will do it."
- John 14.1-4

"And I will give you shepherds after my own heart;
who will feed you with knowledge and understanding."
- YahWeh, The Lord our God - Jeremiah 3.15

"Dharmam tu saksad bhagavat-pranitam:
The Path of Religion is directly enunciated by the Lord."

- Prophet Muhammad; Qu'ran Surah 2.257

"From the subjective majestic manifestation of the Supreme Self-Luminous Govinda, emnate
other derivative subjective divine descendents/avataras, analogous to communicated light

- Srila Prabhupada

"The light of one candle being communicated to other candles, although it burns seperately in
them, is the same in its quality.
I adore the Primeval Lord Govinda, who exhibits Himself equally in the same mobile manner, in
His various manifestations."
- Sri Brahma-samhita 5.46

"Whereas He shall be chosen by the world, so according to Truth, the judgement of deeds done
by the world in Good Faith (mind) is yielded to the Wise Lord, and the Power of Light, whom

"We were with Allah's Apostle (Prophet Muhammad) picking the fruits of the Arak Trees, and
then Allah's Apostle said, "Pick the black fruit, for it is the best."
We, his companions asked, "Were you a shepherd?"
Prophet Muhammad replied, "There was no prophet who was not a shepherd."
- Book 55 Hadith 618

"Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds, and
wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life,
one needs the light of wisdom and the guidance of virtue."

everyone's heart speaks not externally but from within. He instructs the devotees in all respects,
and that is His way of instruction."

"The Lord is my Shepherd;
I shall not want,
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
For You are with me;

Subject: some related eight day Christian/Jewish prayer thoughts

As a result of all of us praying the Lord’s Prayer for God’s will to done and
heaven come on earth there are four archangels (three in addition to Michael)
that represent the righteous “Dharma” of God’s Truth on Earth.

Ariel (who represents the “Light of the One Increasing”)
Gabriel (“the Light of the One without a second”)
Raphael or Jesus as a human angel (“the Light of the One Glorifying Itself or
Changing from death to Eternal Life inside of us all)
Michael (“The Light of the One Discriminating Its Divine Self from UnTruth”)

“The Certainity of our Hope in God gives us faith that if ‘first we are sick,
then we will be healed’. Though
We walk through the shadow of death, “I AM and with you.” Psalm 23 God walks
with us, outside of us, in this world “until the Sun don’t shine”, Then He
saves and redeems us and also walks with us, inside of us, in the next (as
long as we keep following Him there). What a blessing!

The historical. evidence for any claim that Krishna’s name precedes that of
Christ is weak. Of course, the historical fact that Jesus is God in Christ,
follows from the power of the historical life He lived. The fact that He
lived it fully to the point of dying on the cross in order that our souls be
saved and sins be washed away has not been unimportant historically…That’s
for sure.

Hinduism teaches that, in addition to being a “cosmic consciousness and
energy” God has to be personal in order to answer our prayers. Of Course, God
doesn’t necessarily have to be personal all the time. He can be an impersonal
Name, for example, if He maintains the Truth of Himself inside of that Name.
But, in order to answer our prayers He has to be individual and unique. In
order to be individual He has to have a name. In order to have a name, He has
to be personal. If Krishna wants to live among us and be His own Self,
Vishnu, He has to incarnate Himself as relative Truth in consciouness
(satyam) as well as absolute Truth in consciousness (rritam) . He has to be
more than just an impersonal eternal divine Spirit singing free and
unfettered His song of eternal life. He has to live eternally inside of our
human hearts as Sat, Chid, Ananda [perceptual knowledge] and also as
conceputal knowledge of Divine Eternal Truth also. He has to be a Father God
living in the environments of our experience and also a Son God living as the
essence of our knowledge of our experience, and both the Son and the Father
manifesting themselves as absolute Truth inside this experience.

There are more comments and related prayers at the Prayers from the
Upanishads subdirectory of the prayers directory on this website.
Further discussion of this is better left as personal unwritten spiritual
transmission to us from our Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ dwelling in us as
part of our Trinity God.

May God protect you and guide you forward in accomplishing your own goals
during the new year.
