Subject: 2001 Letter to President Carter

Dear President Carter,

Thank you for your request that we pray together for our leaders and our country, the United States
of America, in this time of trouble.
Our Father Abraham's name means that he was the father of Ham, who lived before him (Noah's
Son). Therefore if we study the life of Abraham in the Bible we shall know, that "Before Noah, I AM."
In the Bible we find it recorded that our father Abraham had faith in God even to the point of
offering up his hope for a lasting future (his Son Isaac `1) to God. When he did this he, in effect, instead
of claiming to know all the answers himself let God be the One to see the Christ in him.
The Bible also teaches that all nations were created out of one man, Adam, and God's Son, Jesus
Christ, living his life in order to help us all, to heal us all, to go back in time and set things right for us
all. If we study his life we shall know that "Before Abraham I AM."
I pray that the Lord God of all of us will guide our leaders who guide our country, I pray he will
guide the leaders of all the countries on earth that stand with us in the fight against those who would
terrorize us. May he protect our people from harm and from fear of harm. May justice be served among
us and in our relationships with others. May he enter the hearts and minds of all of us on the earth who
believe in him in order that his will might be done amongst us all. May God grant kindness to Abraham,
strength and joy to Isaac, and to Ishmael, and righteousness to his Son, Jesus Christ (YHWH Elohim,
YHWH Adonai, YHWH Sabbath)

`1 Our Muslim friends claim that this Son that was offered up was Ishmael instead of Isaac. But,
whoever it was, the sacrifice has already been made and doe not need to be repeated.

"By the mouths of the upright you shall be exalted.
By the words of the righteous you shall be blessed,
By the tongue of the devout you shall be sanctified,
Amid the Holy you shall be glorified."

Dear Lt. Col. Harrell,

As I write you this lmorning, our country, indeed the entire world faces great uncertainty and
trepitdation.
Yet, despite the questions we are all asking, regardless of the fears we may be experiencing, one fact
is clear; we will pull together as a nation in this time of crisis.
I am, calling on you and friends of the Carter Center to join together in prayer for our country's future
for President Bush and all our leaders, for the courageous rescue workers at last week's terrorist
attacks, and for our fellow Americans who were victimized by these cowardly acts.
If you haven't already, please give your best possible support to relief organizations that leading
recovery efforts. If you are able, done relief supplies, which are urgently needed.

In a few weeks, I hope to have an opportunity to write you about The Carter Center's latest
accomplishments and plans for 2002. But, today, we must unit in compassion and resolve to meet the
challenges to our country's security.
